Donald Baumgarten, 93, of Casselton, ND passed away peacefully on Wednesday, April 9, 2025 at his home.
Donald Virgil Baumgarten was born Nov. 19, 1931 at Fargo, ND to Richard and Gertrude (Hans) Baumgarten. He grew up on the family farm near Durbin, ND and attended school in Durbin graduating from Lincoln High School in Casselton in 1949.
Donald married Barbara Ann “Bobbie” Jabs on June 1, 1952. They made their home on a farm later moving to the home farm in the 1960’s. Donnie was a life-long farmer and raised Hereford cattle. In April of 2014, Donnie and Bobbie moved into Casselton. He continued to help on the farm until hispassing and cherished the five generation longevity of working the soil.
Donald served on the Durbin Township Board, Farmers Union Board, Martin’s Lutheran Church Council. He loved playing cards and dancing. He also drove truck for Rustad’s and Cossette Trucking for several years.
He is survived by four children, Dan (Colleen) Baumgarten of Casselton, Cathy (Doug) Freitag of Angle Inlet, MN, Terry (Sandie) Baumgarten of St. Michael, MN and Colleen (Ryan) McLean of Rosemount, MN; 7 grandchildren – grandson, Joel (Erin) Baumgarten and their kids John, Jerrin (Olivia), Gracie(Jeremy Hoemberg) and Jaylen, granddaughter, Jen Baumgarten and her kids, Chevon, Mackinley, Princeton and Mira and granddaughter, Amy Baumgarten (Wayne Niemann); grandson, Zach (Casie) Crocker and their kids Harrison and Warren; granddaughter, Morgan (Colin) Roberts and their son, Jackson;granddaughter, Brittany (Chandler) Farrell and granddaughter, Katie McLean; sister, Arlene Cullen; and several nieces and nephews.
Don was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Bobbie; grandson, Michael; siblings, Hilbert (Jordis) Baumgarten and Elaine Baumgarten; brother-in-law, George Cullen.
Visitation: Friday, April 18, 2025 from 4 to 5 PM with a prayer service at 5 PM at West Funeral Home, Casselton.
Funeral: Saturday, April 19 at 11 AM at Martin’s Lutheran Church, Casselton with visitation one hour prior.
Burial: Casselton Cemetery.
