Alex J. Moncur, 35, of Camp Crook, SD, passed away on July 1, 2026 at the Monument Health in Rapid City, SD.

Funeral services for Alex will be held on Tuesday, July 14, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. at the Camp Crook Community Center with Pastor Mike Smith officiating. Burial will follow at the Capitol Cemetery.

Alex J. Moncur was born on June 10, 1991 in Spearfish, SD, the son of Deb (Shevling) Stearns and Dale Moncur. Alex attended and graduated from Belle Fourche High School in 2010. While in school, Alex competed in a few years of football and wrestled in AAU. He was a kindhearted soul, a loyal friend, a hard worker and had the biggest and best smile. After high school, Alex attended Western Dakota Tech for 3 semesters in their welding program. In 2010, Alex became a father when his son Daeson was born. In the spring of 2012, Alex moved home permanently to help out on the ranch.

On New Year’s Eve in 2019, Alex took a leap of faith that changed his life forever when he met Jody. What began that night grew into a love rooted in faith, devotion, and unwavering commitment. In August of 2023, they were united in marriage, joyfully blending two beautiful families into one.

Alex was a devoted husband and a loving father to Daeson, Gracie, Kylie, and Cade. Nothing brought him more joy than cheering them on at their activities, celebrating their accomplishments, and simply being present in their lives. Every day, he made it a point to remind Jody and the kids just how deeply he loved them. His love was constant, intentional, and evident in both his words and his actions.

The outdoors was where Alex felt most at home. He had a deep love for the ranch, the land, and every animal entrusted to his care. He was a true steward of the land, and his fingerprints can be found throughout the ranch—in the countless projects he completed, the many trees he planted with hope for the future, and the hours he faithfully spent watering and tending them. His legacy lives on in the beauty he created and the life he nurtured.

Alex was a humble man with a servant’s heart. No matter how busy he was, he never hesitated to set aside his own work to lend a helping hand to someone in need. He gave generously of his time, his strength, and his kindness without expecting anything in return.

His faith was the foundation of his life. Most Sundays, Alex could be found worshipping in church alongside his family. And many evenings ended with one of his favorite simple pleasures—sitting beside Jody, quietly looking out over the ranch they loved and were building together.

Alex leaves behind a legacy of faith, love, hard work, humility, and unwavering devotion to his family. He will be deeply missed, forever loved, and remembered by all whose lives were blessed by knowing him.

Alex is survived by his wife Jody, his children, Daeson, Gracie, Kylie and Cade, his parents, Deb (Scott) Stearns and Dale Moncur, sister Jessica (Wade) Kornemann, grandmother Janet Shevling, mother in-law Laurie (Jeff) Kost, sister and brother in-law Tessa (Scott) Roth, brother and sister in-law Tye (Brittany) Kost, nephews and nieces Ryder, Bodie, Jameson, Harper, and Kollyns and numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins.

Alex is preceded in death by his grandparents Lloyd and Leone Moncur and Grandpa Shevling and aunt Cindy.
